yes it is an Atom . the wonderful chip that drove made-for-mobile NetBook onto us but that lagging feeling, even when running your basic Microsoft Word OR Adobe Acrobat – the price we paid for putting all this into a tiny ultra-portable computer – never went away, until now in Duo 😉 mid October 2010 currently most sellers have only Silver

ACER Aspire TimelineX 3820TG-5464G50n introduced September 2010, lowest online discount around W1,070,000
intel Core i5 i5-460M (2.53GHz) – LED backlight 13.3″ inch 1366×768 – 500GB HDD – 4GB DDR3 RAM – 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium – AMD(ATI) 라데온 HD5650 Graphics 1GB – weight 1.84Kg – 6cell battery – 1Gbps LAN 802.11n WireLess – HDMI D-SUB WebCAM BlueTooth Multi-Card Reader Slot – color in Black
- a rather carry-able weight notebook laptop in
- ultra-thin (term for notebook category used in South Korea from 2009 for thin laptops with enough power comparable to a working desktop, so more on the costly range usually Sony, SamSung or LG)
- with enough power to play but the most extensive games out late Summer 2010 and
- sufficient battery life of 4 to 8 hours (now this depends twice battery hours whether you are using the basic OR added graphics card)
no complaint what-so-ever . except that ACER has had a bad, when there were, and not long a product support history, NOR reliable at that, in South Korea . but we all want to forget that OR simply deny this vital Achilles’ Heel exist at all, for this cotton candy seem so downright delicious ! yummy
[ December 15th update ]
since the release of the new Apple MacBook Air 13″, this is the cheaper AND a bit heavier alternative among young Korean college students . now with an attractive price of an incredible W910,000 at certain conglomerate on-Line shopping malls – currently Lotte iMall, CJMall and Farmers and Fishermens SNeShop – accepting periodical 5~8% discounts on specific credit cards such as KB KookMin, BC, HyunDai or ShinHan (formerly LG).adding to the line-up is faster but more costly Core i5-560M 2.66GHz selling for W1,030,000
and a prestigeous Core i7-640M 2.8GHz at W1,300,000 with discounts – but the fun part is that you can inter-change and upgrade the CPU yourself from the basic 460M model above and save almost W100,000 after selling the original CPU .also, 2 months after my original post, buyers who bought mainly for the relatively bargain price, are still having a hard time with Acer product support in South Korea . almost to the tune of HTC cell phones who receive calls from Taiwan across the sea . attendants response is sloppy and they don’t have parts to fix AND will NOT admit anything is wrong . as I accentuated in my laptop or notebook dedicated information Page on the top menu : product support is a serious matter to consider when buying a portable machine where the latest technology is crammed into miniscule space PLUS the fragile LCD screen . so to me this is still gambling in Las Vegas .

Hi, thank u for all information. I am thinking of getting a ultraportable here in korea, and not being able to speak more than 3 words in korean, this article really helps a lot. i have been looking at a few options, and was just wondering what you (the author) or anyone else think of these:
1. Macbook Air 13.1 (small hdd, slow processor compared to the other options?)
2. HP Pavilion dm1z
3. Lenovo ThinkPad X220 (not released yet?)
4. Samsung Q330
5. Sony VAIO Z (not that i could ever afford one of these 🙁
6. Samsung Series 9 (probably my first choice, but its still very expensive?)
I looked on gmarket, but can anyone maybe also suggest where one can go look for good deals for these types of laptops in the seoul area?
I envy you going through THE most joyous moment in Millennium life i.e., choosing a laptop 😉
but you’re gonna have to do better than 6 choices – down to 2 or 3 .
confide in your true Self and needs .
Mac vs.PC for starters, then price tiers of SS-Sony vs.HP-TP .
shop nowhere other than your accessible SuperMart for expats NOT fluent in Korean OR without a dependalbe local friend – for reasons told times over here .
get the most popular model for resale value when you leave .
