it is called Pocket Wi-Fi in neighboring Japan and WiBro in South Korea, then simply Egg dubbed from prime manufacturer KT Tech’s promotion name . as a division of South Korea’s major cellular carrier whose major business is producing smart-phones, their support center is usually within or right next to a KT Telecommunications branch throughout the Peninsula . and here I have had to visit one near HongDae from a low signal on a newly bought Egg . normally if you purchase an electronics device from s larger conglomerate shopping mall the refund and exchange process is automatic, but have to get a defect authorization from its support center when you buy from a discount outlet, which is my case .
HongDae is short for Hong-ik University known for its art and design department since 1970’s and over the Millennium party club scene have come to doinate over the cozy cafes and bars which have stuttled in the alleys across from the school, which is quite a walk from the actual HongDae Subway Station . and a decade past the Millennium : a prime stop on the Airport Express Train route connecting inCheon international Airport with SEOUL KTX bullet Train Station in 43 minutes . this station in an intersection hub for this airport train line and SEOUL Subway Line 2 which circles the whole of old downtown as well as the new KangNam South of the Han River . and this KT building is in a small alley behind Exits 2 or 3 marked in red ‘x’ on map below (up facing North-East):
first you inside the building you notice the support center for KT Telecommunications, the cellular carrier – quite busy above .. and to its side entrance is our KT Tech support – empty below . they swiftly noted down my serial number and produced a defect slip with which I got a refund from the point of purchase .
( December 2013 Update ) they have since (the KT building remains while only KT Tech’s support center have) moved across the main street accessible via Exit 9 from the subway at red dot on map below (up facing North):
